Expending Your Creativity
Write a Pop Song
In pairs or groups write the lyrics of a pop song. Read the following steps about how to write a pop song.
First decide what the song will be about. Themes could include love (falling in love, being disappointed in love, being rejected, etc.); jobs; family and friends; your feelings; what you like doing, etc.
Secondly, note down some words or phrases that you like the sound of. As you write more, try to link the words in your head. Do the words rhyme?
Thirdly, begin to put the ideas in order. Do you want to tell a story? Or express ideas about a subject that is important to you? Will the song have a chorus — i.e. the part of the song that does not change and is repeated several times?
Then, draft your song. You may have to write it many times until it sounds just right. When you are ready show the song to another pair or group and listen to their feedback. Can you improve the song at all?
Finally, write a clean copy of your finished song.
If you are feeling really creative why not try writing the music to accompany the words? Find a friend who plays an instrument and together see how you can develop the song.
